IT Recruitment Strategy For Large-Scale eCommerce Website

About The Project:

The client, a large scale eCommerce website, was in search of a partner who could support their efforts to overhaul their back-end systems and implement a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

With little ramp up time, the client required a team of seasoned developers that would be able to complete this project, which was slated to be a 4-month assignment from conception to completion. Additionally, all 4 professionals hired for this project would need to work onsite throughout the duration of the project, which proved to be a difficult staffing assignment as most contractors with experience using a highly niche programming language typically work remotely on a project-to-project basis.

With this in mind, the client sought an agency that they could trust to outline a cost-effective recruitment strategy that would set the project up for successful delivery, and turned to the Tandym Tech team.

The Challenge:

Niche + Hybrid IT Skill Sets: The client needed to secure 3 Ruby on Rails developers with JavaScript experience to work onsite to build the initial code for the new CRM, in addition to a Business Analyst with experience gathering and compiling user requirements as well as development and test automation tools/frameworks: Cucumber/Gherkin.

Financial Constraints: Since the client had to staff for a combination of senior and junior roles with varying levels of experience, securing this highly niche talent within budget would be challenging.

The Results:

Equipped with a team of recruiters with extensive backgrounds in IT staffing, the Tandym Tech team needed to provide a quick turnaround in delivering the professionals for each phase of the project. Over the course of 2 weeks, the team identified, interviewed, and onboarded all 3 Ruby on Rails developers and secured a Business Analyst one week after.

Tandym Tech's team knowledge of the Boston IT market as well as the rapport they had built with the Director of Software Engineering proved to be critical in their ability to outline a strategy that educated the client on the best recruitment strategy to employ for a successful project delivery.

The team established a streamlined interview process which allowed them to interview prospective candidates for both types of roles on a rolling basis, while simultaneously pre-scheduling the most qualified professionals together for second round interviews with the client.

As the project’s requirements called for a highly niche skill set, the collective technical knowledge among the recruiting team was instrumental in identifying the most qualified candidates throughout the interview process. They were able to successfully test the candidates’ ability to communicate various aspects of Ruby on Rails throughout all stages of the CRM implementation process.
